We just left the ANA Coin Show after a grueling week of waking up early, going to bed late, setting up, taking down and talking to everyone who stopped by.  We want to thank everyone who stopped by to say hello.  Since we are internet based, seeing and talking to everyone in person is the most fun part of the show.

I was able to spend one night at home and then back on the road again.  Off to Hong Kong.  This is a 15 hour flight, traveling 7800 miles.  I have  to attend numerous auctions, private appointments and the coin show on Friday - Sunday. 

After arriving in Hong Kong, going through customs, finding my luggage, getting a cab, checking into my hotel, unpacking and getting organized, it is time to get some sleep and prepare for the days to follow. 

I woke up early and started my day at 5:30 in the morning.  I wanted to have a good breakfast and relax before going to view lots for the Stacks Bowers auction.  They opened at 9:00am and I wanted to be the first in line.  I have written blogs about lot viewing, the importance can't be stressed.  Many people think they can breeze through the lots - bad move!

Prices realized are directly related to what is seen in lot viewing.  The quality of the coins are taken into consideration, accuracy of the lot description, etc...  Many collectors see a low price for a coin and immediately think the market is soft when really, the quality of the coins might not have been up to standard or described accurately.  Sometimes a price for a coin shoots through the roof, the reason is because maybe the coin was not identified as a pattern or it is a rare variety.  There is always an explanation and it can always be traced back to lot viewing.     

After flying for 15 hours and traveling 7800 miles, going to view the Stacks Bowers lots was quite impressive.  So many coins..............I spent about 4 hours viewing lots and taking notes.  It was worth every minute. 

The next Modern Chinese coins up for sale will be on Sunday during the Champion Auction event.  There are many POWER COINS in this sale.  It will be interesting to see if any records are broken and watch the prices realized.
