Update from the Beijing Coin Show - A 2008 10 Kilo Gold Rat just sold for over $1.5M dollars.  This is the highest recorded auction sale for a 10 Kilo Gold coin.  This is yet another in a series of Modern Chinese coins to break the Million Dollar barrier.  Prior to this year, it was unheard of for a Modern Chinese coin to sell for over 1 Million Dollars.  Now it is a regular event.

This auction had mixed results.  Some coins sold for great prices while others did not fare as well.  I did not see the coins, so I can't tell you about the quality.  I can comment this was not a well-publicized auction.  I can also mention it was not easy to place bids unless you were present.  I am sure these were contributing factors for the mixed results.  There were some fantastic buys if the coins were in great condition.  If not in good condition, this could account for some of the lower prices.

The market seems to be gaining momentum.  For the last month many people have been guarded and cautious as prices retreated a bit.  It seems like things are gettng better, as we mentioned would happen in a previous blog, as we head toward the middle of November.  

Another indication is the amount of activity.  Sales have increased a great deal in the last week.  Also, we were able to purchase yet another very large collection, so we will continue to add new items to the website for purchase.
