06-14-11 | ANOTHER WORLD RECORD
It was about a month ago I wrote about the 1991 5 Kilo Gold coin selling for almost $1.6 Million Dollars. This is the first Modern Chinese coin selling for over 1 Million Dollars in auction. I thought this was a great purchase for the buyer. I value this coin to be much more. The mintage is only 10 pieces!!! Since I am behind in my posts, I am trying to catch up in order. Two weeks after the first Modern Chinese coin broke through the Million Dollar threshold, another coin soon followed. A 10 Kilo Gold 2000 Millenium coin sold for $1.2 Million Dollars. I realize this broke a record, but I think this sold for a very low price. The melt value is practically $500,000. The mintage is probably in the 20 piece range. I believe this coin to be worth closer to $3 Million Dollars. No, I am not crazy. Currently, these multi-kilo coins are not understood or appreciated. They key word in that sentence is "currently." Everything takes time to evolve. It was not long ago that Gold Panda Kilos sold for 10%-25% over melt. Now they sell for 200% to 600% over the price of spot Gold. The same will hold true for these large multi-Kilo Gold coins. It takes time for everyone to recognize their true value. Each time these appear in auction, Gold Kilos and Multi Gold Kilos will continue to increase in price. Here is the simple reason - These are rare, low mintage coins that are made of Gold. To further illustrate, there are Gold kilos today that sell for well over $500,000. This is roughly 10X melt. It will not be long until everyone starts to realize the importance of these multi-kilo gold coins. The bottom line is these larger Gold coins keep gaining more attention and, therefore, selling for higher prices. This is a great indication of the strength of this market. Here is a great story, but not for me. I owned a rare Gold Kilo that I purchased for $125,000 and sold a few years later for $175,000. This seems OK, right? What if I told you I watched this same Gold Kilo sell for $600,000 18 months after I sold mine. This is a great story for the person who purchased this Gold Kilo. The lesson I learned is to purchase Gold Kilos when available because they were neglected and not priced properly within the market. I still believe all of these to be undervalued. Low mintage and made of Gold - enough said............. COLLECT - INVEST - HAVE FUN |
