Good Morning From Hong Kong - Michael Chou's (Champion Auction) firm conducted the first of two auctions.  The prices yielded were very strong.  This first auction set the tone for new pricing throughout the world for Modern Chinese coins.  This auction lived up to the hype and excitement promised.

NGC graded coins continued to dominate bringing strong prices for authenticated, graded and encapsulated coins. 

I have not seen bidding like this, EVER.  I do not believe there were many coins or sets in which one bid won the lot.  It was not uncommon to have 6-10 bids.  This added a great deal of time to the auction.  People were on phones and internet bidding was strong. 

Not only was the bidding strong, but something worth noting was that almost every coin to hit the auction block sold.  This is not common. 

We will be updating again about the Opening Ceremony and educational sessions that take place today.  There will also be very rare coins on display as well as many coins for sale.
