10-6-11 | Constantly asked questions - Sets
I have not posted a blog lately because I receive many phone calls and emails daily about the current market conditions. I spend a great deal of time answering these questions and have not spent enough time posting blogs. I plan to post the most commonly asked questions in separate blogs. This blog is about sets, inspired by Bruce who calls daily. I do not agree and feel strongly that certain sets must be collected as sets - not individual pieces. As a dealer, these individual coins are worth much less when not in complete sets. I discount the price heavily when offered individually. For me, it is a major inconvenience and a hassle purchasing one coin at a time for sets that should be bought and sold as a group. It is important for everyone to realize the problem of purchasing single coins from set. Do not get caught in this trap. The sellers of these pieces will push how rare the individual piece is. What they are not telling you is how difficult these are to sell as individual coins and how difficult it is to complete these sets when purchasing one coin at a time. Some classic examples of sets that should be collected as sets are: The Archeological sets, aka, Bronze Age sets Sets that can be collected by individual coins are: The above mentioned are just some examples that come to mind. I watch collectors make many mistakes. Not collecting by set, when appropriate, is a common mistake made all the time. I always ask why these single coins are offered to me? Yes, they are rare but not worth purchasing. The answer is the original seller will not repurchase! Isn't this a red flag? The idea is to educate everyone about the sets that must be purchased and sold as sets vs. the sets that can be assembled one coin at a time. I hope this helps. Please contact us with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you. COLLECT - INVEST - HAVE FUN.........................
