Error coins were "HOT" at FUN.  I had no error coins on display but had them in the safe.  It's a good thing I had them with me because we had many questions that resulted in many sales of these coins.  It wasn't just us, others sold many errors as well.  These are cool coins that are truly rare.  You know what I always say "raritity does not go out of style."  

When Heritage announced the start of the error coin section of their auction.  A comment was made that they had more bidders and more activity for the error coin lots than they did for 100's of their regular auction lots.  It just goes to show this segment of the market is very strong.  Error coins should be strong because they are rare, interesting and thought provoking.     

I know error coins are popular and command a great deal of attention due to the amount of emails I receive about error coins that have been stored or found in change.  I receive so many emails about people who claim to have errors.  My advice is always to please send me pictures and then to have the coin authenticated.  Without authentication, I will not purchase raw coins unless I can actually view the coin. 

If you want to experience a very interesting part of numismatics, look at error coins the next time you attend a show.  If you want to learn more without attending a show, you can purchase a book we coauthored - 100 Greatest US Error Coins.  This is a great book showing the top 100 US error coins along with descriptions, how the error occured and pricing information from the year 2000 to 2010.  This shows the dramatic change in price over a 10 year period.  It is staggering to see the price increase for these dramatic error coins.  Can you believe an error coins breached the $1,000,000 mark?  That's right, an error coin sold in excess of $1.5 million dollars.
