03-27-11 | Higher Prices
Prices keep increasing!!! Here is a quick story. We bid on over $1,000,000 of rare coins in one week. We only purchased $200,000. This means we were only 20% successful. This is highly unusual for us. We have been the top buyers of rare coins for the past several years. The market has risen to higher levels than we realized. We have adjusted our buy prices to reflect these new levels so we can maintain being the most aggressive buyers of the rare coins we are seeking. We believe this is the next round of price increases we mentioned in a previous blog. More and more great coins are in the hands of collectors, so there are less available to purchase in the open market. Prices for rare coins will continue to increase much higher. It would not surprise us to see prices for rare coins to double in the next 24 months. When you see rare coins for sale, our advice is to purchase!!! If you don't, someone else will and you will look back one day and regret not purchasing. Everyone has made this mistake. Learn from the mistakes made by others. Sometimes you do not get a second chance and if you do, it could be at a much higher price. Rare coins are trading at higher levels than seen in the past. You have to adjust mentally to the new levels. Many people can't make this transition. They remember when 1 oz Gold coins were $2000 and now many of these are practically $20,000. You have to adjust mentally to the new price levels if you expect to purchase coins. Do not pay attention to websites showing price lists for rare coins. OK, this statement might be a bit strong. Let me rephrase this. Be careful when gathering information, especially from pricing websites. Most are not accurate and are used by the people who administer these sites to purchase coins. Many of these prices are way too low or way too high. These are used so others, who set the prices, can purchase at low levels or sell at really high prices. These prices also serve to hinder the public from purchasing in the open market. If the public is not going to purchase, the dealers have less competition. This is really important to know and understand. This is a great example: If a coin's real price is $30,000, yet websites show this coin listed at $24,000, many people will not purchase this $30,000 coin because watchers of these websites believe $30,000 is too much, when in reality, it's not. There are many people placing all their faith in the propaganda from these websites. Also, if you have this coin and want to sell to this dealer, they will show you these prices and you will think your coins are worth less than they really are. Here is a suggestion - offer to purchase certain coins at the listed price on these websites from the dealer who is setting these prices. What you will most likely find is this coin is not available. You will hear something like, "I just sold my last piece." This is not meant to be a negative blog. I want to provide a different perspective based on experience. Do your homework by talking to people who have this coin, check auction records and email us with your questions. If you are spending a great deal of money, you should take the time to make sure you are being treated fairly. Contact us Collect - Invest - Have Fun............................. |
