The market for the larger Gold coins (12 oz, 20 oz and Kilos) has really heated up.  These coins have seen tremendous gains with a great deal of room to keep increasing.  These have been so undervalued for a long time. 

There are many factors contributing to these increases.  Many people have been working on their 5 oz collections and some are close to completion.  Since the 5 oz series is so tough, many have started to look at other rare coins with similar mintages.  It is only natural to look at these larger coins.

Many collectors/investors entering the market are gravitating to these larger Gold coins from the start.  Why not purchase a coin that a loupe is not required! 

I use the 5 oz Gold coins as my base for determining price levels for larger Gold coins.  I want to keep this short and simple.  If a typical 5 oz Gold coin sells for an average of $150,000, this equals $30,000 per oz.  If a 12 oz Gold coin sells for the same multiple per oz, this would yield a price of $360,000.  Please remember, this is for a 12 oz Gold coin with a similar mintage.  There are 5 oz Gold coins that have sold for $400,000.  These are the exception. 

About four months ago, a 20 oz Gold coin sold for $575,000.  I wrote in one of my blogs that this seems expensive now but will only increase in the future.  This 20 oz Gold coin sold for a multiple of $28,750 per oz.  This seems reasonable.  This also supports the idea the larger Gold coins have been neglected and overlooked.  They are now taking center stage and gaining the attention they deserve.  Since this 20 oz Gold coin sold for $575,000, this has paved the way for other larger Gold coins to sell for incredible prices. 

We will look back at the 12 oz, 20 oz and Kilos and ask, "why didn't I purchase more of these when they were selling for the same or less than their 5 oz counterparts?"  I know I am already asking myself this question. 

There are many larger Gold coins with very low mintages coming to auction.   Expect new records and lots of bidding for these coins.
