03-29-11 | Tug of War
What do I mean by tug of war? I explain to everyone that there has been a tug of war going on for the last few years. The tug of war is when great coins are offered, I am willing to pay high prices to acquire these coins. This means I have to outbid everyone else. The higher prices I am willing to pay results in the higher price others, especially those overseas, are willing to pay. There are too many people competing for too few coins. The more one person is willing to pay, the more everyone else will pay the next time a great coin is offered. This is the tug of war. I want to keep/bring great rarities back to the US for display and educational purposes. These are fascinating coins with great historical and cultural significance. I believe China wants to bring these coins back home. I do not blame them. These are tremendous treasures. This is also part of the tug of war. There are now many people in the US willing to pay way over market to acquire these great coins. This was not always the case. Every day there are more sophisticated collectors and investors entering this area of numismatics willing to spend a huge sum to acquire great rarities. Thus, the tug of war will continue and get even more intense as we will see in the upcoming auctions. There are two auctions in the next few weeks. Champion Auctions and Heritage will both have auctions within two weeks of each other. Champion has some coins that are absolutely incredible. Gold Lunar Kilos (mintage 15), Gold Unicorn Kilo (mintage 18), 20 oz Gold Peacock (mintage 66 or less), 5 oz Gold Chairman Mao (mintage 99), 5 oz Gold Fu, Lu and Shu (mintage 99), etc... These are just a few of the major rarities. These coins are so rare that it is unbelievable to see so many all at one time. These are sure to shatter previous price records! The stage has been set for the next series of tug of war. Will these coins end up in the US or China? Only time will tell. Collect, Invest and Have Fun.................... |
